5 November 2009
- Two of Volvo's largest cars emitting only 129g/km of CO2 emissions
- Fuel economy of up to 57.7 miles per gallon on the combined cycle
- Up to 900 miles on one tank of fuel
The Volvo V70 premium estate and S80 executive saloon already offer copious amounts of load carrying versatility and an engaging driving experience combined with class-leading safety features and refined passenger comfort. Now, with the introduction of the new DRIVe variants, unrivalled fuel economy in the premium estate and executive car sector complete the package.
The Volvo V70 and S80 DRIVe benefit from a series of efficiency enhancing features all helping to reduce CO2 emissions to 129 g/km and improve fuel economy up to 57.7mpg, enabling both models to travel up to 900 miles on one tank of fuel.
The Volvo V70 and S80 join the new C30 SportsCoupe, S40 saloon, V50 Sportswagon, XC60 crossover and XC70 premium estate in Volvo's DRIVe range. All seven models in the range are equipped with efficiency-enhancing features and marked with the DRIVe emblem to signal their uprated environmental properties.
The Volvo V70 and S80 DRIVe models are available to order now and come equipped with the same powertrain - 1.6-litre diesel engine and manual gearbox - as the smaller C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe variants but with specially tailored engine software and different ratios in third, fourth and fifth gears.
Other factors contributing to the reduction in fuel consumption include the tyres which have been specially designed for low rolling resistance. The V70 and S80 DRIVe models are also equipped with an electric power steering pump that delivers exactly the servo assistance the driver requires, in a precise and energy-efficient way without draining engine power. The V70 also features a covered grille to aid aerodynamics and a lowered chassis (20 mm front, 15 mm rear).
Volvo's DRIVe low-CO2 range showcases Volvo's ability to produce increasingly efficient vehicles. Coupled with the benefits of family and executive-sized accommodation, all DRIVe cars will appeal to company drivers and private individuals alike seeking to reduce their carbon footprint, without sacrificing comfort or safety.
