Volvo Car Corporation doubles its sales in Russia

Russia is currently the Volvo Car Corporation's fastest-growing market. Sales in Russia increased by 109 percent to 11,865 cars sold between January and August 2007 compared with 5,673 units sold during the same period in 2006. The best-selling models in Russia are the Volvo XC90 and the sedan models headed by the Volvo S40.

"The sales figures in Russia are very encouraging," says Fredrik Arp, President and CEO of the Volvo Car Corporation. "And we have very high expectations regarding our business results for Russia in the coming year. The market analyses are positive and I expect sales of Volvo cars to exceed 20,000 units by the end of 2007," adds Fredrik Arp.

Volvo's organization in Russia is being adapted to match this changing sales situation and a new structure is being put into place to handle the increased customer demand. The dealer network is also growing. "At present, Volvo has 24 dealerships in Russia. By the end of 2008, another 28 dealerships will be opened, stretching across 5 time zones in this vast market," says Fredrik Arp.

The Russian car market is growing by close to 80 percent and Volvo has taken the lead position in the premium car segment, with a market share of 20 percent. One reason for Volvo's popularity is its Scandinavian design heritage and the Swedish tradition of making cars that are tailored for the tough northern climate.

Moscow, the all-new XC70 and the refreshed S40 and V50 were recently launched together with diesel versions of the XC range and the V70.

On September 25, Volvo Car Corporation and Volvo Truck Corporation participate in a traffic safety seminar in Moscow initiated by the Swedish and Russian authorities to increase the exchange of experiences in the important field of traffic safety. The Swedish Embassy and the Swedish Chamber of commerce are also involved in the seminar.
