Volvo At The National Boat Caravan And Outdoor Show 2006
17 February 2006
Volvo has a selection of its latest models including an award winning towcar on its stand (no. 5430) in Hall 5 at the National Boat Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show1 at Birmingham's NEC from 18-26 February.
- All New C70 Coupe/Convertible: folding hard top goes up/down in 30 seconds
- XC70 Volvo Ocean Race edition D5 AWD: winner of 2 awards in Towcar of the Year
- V50 2.0D SE compact sportswagon
- XC90 D5 SE – Volvo Selected Used Car
During the 12 years Volvo has exhibited at the show the Volvo range has become increasingly stylish and desirable, yet still practical and versatile. Volvo has a long commitment to designing cars suitable for outdoor hobbies, sailing and caravanning, and even uses its own bespoke range of trailers and caravans to perform towing tests in Sweden and the USA for all its new models.
All New C70 Coupe/Convertible
Ahead of its showroom debut next month, the star of the Volvo stand this
year will be the all new Volvo C70 whose three-piece folding hard top transforms
it from a stylish and secure coupé to a cool convertible in 30 seconds. The
operation of the three roof sections cleverly moving into place, or away into
the boot, has been described as "a piece of theatre" and is worth
seeing.
Volvo has introduced a world first safety innovation for the new C70 – an inflatable side curtain fitted in the front doors which inflates upwards. Naturally, Volvo's safety systems for the new C70 also include an improved Roll Over Protection System (ROPS), high strength steel A-pillars and Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) for effective crash performance with or without the roof in place.
Strong performance is provided from two five-cylinder petrol engines – the 170bhp 2.4i and 220bhp T5 – with a five cylinder, 2.4-litre D5 turbodiesel engine offering 180bhp due to be introduced this summer. Kerbweights for the 2.4i and T5 models with manual transmission are 1692kg and 1711kg respectively, both with a maximum towing limit of 1500kg.
Sport, SE and SE Lux trim levels are available for the new C70, with prices ranging from £26,200 to £33,225 (on the road).
XC70 D5 (185bhp) AWD: Two Towcar of the Year Awards
When Volvo entered an XC70 AWD with its new, upgraded 185bhp D5 turbodiesel
engine in The Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards 2006, it won two awards –
the 'Over £33,000 Class ' and the 'AWD Under 1800kg Class '.
The Volvo XC70's popularity continues to grow as more customers realise it offers the versatility of all-wheel drive (AWD) and the ground clearance of an SUV in an estate car body.
The XC70 on the Volvo stand at the show is a Volvo Ocean Race Edition introduced to commemorate and celebrate the round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race2 which is currently taking place. Their unique specification includes exclusive Ocean Blue pearl paintwork with Electric Silver side rubbing strips, brushed aluminium roof rails and leather/textile upholstery with blue stitching.
Volvo offers a choice of two five-cylinder engines for the XC70 – a 210bhp 2.5T petrol engine as well as the D5 turbodiesel in either SE or SE Lux trim levels, with prices ranging from £29,463 to £31,013 (on the road) or from £30,975 to £33,525 for the Volvo Ocean Race Edition models.
Volvo V50 2.0D
Volvo's compact V50 sportswagon takes a step up from the popular V40 model
it replaced in 2004. Its stylish, modern design has a modern interior with a
revolutionary ultra-thin centre console. It is the smallest load carrier in
Volvo's range, available in S, Sport, SE and SE Sport trim levels with a range
of engines including 1.8, 2.4i and T5 petrol units and the 2.0D turbo diesel
featured on the show stand. The added attraction of AWD ( All-Wheel Drive) is
available with the T5 engine and will be attractive to those needing extra
traction for active outdoor pursuits. Prices (on the road) range from £17,955
to £26,820.
Volvo Selected Used Cars programme: Volvo XC90
Volvo's renowned durability and attractive modern designs mean that a
pre-owned Volvo can be equally satisfying for subsequent owners too, and even
better value. This year at the show, a Volvo XC90 from the Volvo Selected Used
Cars (SUC) programme is on display along with details of the preparation
standards and warranties available for the SUC scheme. With a good supply of the
XC90 on Volvo dealer's forecourts, this award winning seven seat SUV is now even
more affordable.
