What a weekend! The Classic Motor Show at the NEC Birmingham once again proved why it is one of the biggest and most exciting events in the UK classic motoring calendar – and the Volvo Owners’ Club was right at the heart of the action.
Across seven packed halls, visitors were treated to an incredible selection of classic and specialist cars, together with tools, parts, motoring memorabilia, restoration demonstrations and specialist traders. The atmosphere throughout the weekend was fantastic, with thousands of enthusiasts making their way around the show.
For 2025, the Volvo Owners’ Club created a particularly striking display, bringing together five very different Volvo convertibles spanning several decades of the marque’s history – and one of them was destined to become one of the biggest talking points of the entire show.
The undoubted star of our stand – and, as it turned out, one of the stars of the entire event – was Dr Andrew Anderson’s magnificent 1957 Volvo Sport, or P1900.
Only 68 examples of the P1900 were produced by Volvo, and Andrew’s car is believed to be the only example in the UK. With its distinctive fibreglass bodywork and remarkable rarity, it attracted an enormous amount of attention from visitors, enthusiasts and members of the motoring press throughout the show.

Another fascinating car on display was Geoff Yeoman’s 1800 Convertible. The car originally started life as an 1800ES before undergoing an extensive five-year transformation into a convertible. The workmanship involved is remarkable and the finished car certainly attracted plenty of interest on the stand.
Completing the display were three generations of the much-loved Volvo C70 Convertible.
We were delighted to feature:
Together, the five cars provided visitors with a fascinating look at Volvo’s open-top models and made for a particularly striking Club display.
The show appeared noticeably busier than in previous years, and there was a tremendous amount of interest in both the cars and the Club throughout the weekend. Photographs from the event can be found on our Facebook page, together with further videos on the Volvo Owners’ Club YouTube channel.
A huge thank you must go to Birgitte, Andrew, Ron, Geoff and Darren for providing their cars, and to Chris Wickers and Jaki Ragg for their help and support throughout the show.
The following Tuesday brought some absolutely fantastic news.
Andrew Anderson’s stunning Volvo P1900 had been officially named ‘Car of the Show’ at the NEC Classic Motor Show.
This was a tremendous achievement and a richly deserved accolade for such an exceptional and historically important Volvo. The P1900 had attracted huge interest throughout the weekend and clearly captured the imagination of visitors and judges alike.
Congratulations to Andrew on this outstanding award and on helping to showcase both the Volvo marque and the Volvo Owners’ Club to such a large and enthusiastic audience.
