Key New Product Features
S40, V40
Model Year 2002

Product modifications and refinements are continuously being added to the S40 and V40. Changes for the MY01 were focused on improved safety systems with a dual stage front airbag system, ISO-FIX attachment points and the Inflatable Curtain as well as ride and drive improvements with a redesigned chassis system and a new 5-speed automatic transmission.

Changes for MY02 are focused on customer convenience features, a realigned package structure and a very attractive Sport Package. Convenience features include new and greatly improved cup holders for both front and rear seat passengers. The realignment of packages includes a Premium and Premium Plus package that includes most popular options like leather, sunroof, power driver seat and CD player. The very well equipped and attractively priced Sport Package has been enhanced with many components from the popular MY01 Sport Edition.

All the changes and improvements on the S40 and V40 for MY02 will help to ensure the vehicles attractiveness on the market and strengthen the products selling proposition.

Packages

Premium Package
The premium package is created to align with the rest of the Volvo lineup and includes many features of a popularly equipped vehicle: power glass sunroof, premium sound system with in-dash CD player and upgraded speakers, trip computer, power drivers seat and simulated wood trim on the door panels, glove compartment, gear shifter and gear shifter panel.

Note: The wood-effect inlays will be replaced by aluminum effect inlays if ordered together with the sport package

Premium Plus Package
The premium plus package includes all features from the premium package and adds leather faced seating surfaces.

Sport Package
An enhanced and very attractive Sport Package is introduced for MY02. The package includes many of the features that made the MY01 Sport Edition so popular: black headlight trim, Stellar 10-spoke alloy wheel and the special sport seat with a leather / cloth seating surface in addition to the rear spoiler, front fog lights and sport leather rimmed steering wheel. The MY02 Sport Package further introduces a new aluminum effect inlay and a sporty instrument cluster.

The special sport seat will be replaced by leather seating surfaces if the sport package is ordered together with either the Premium Plus Package or leather as a single option.

Safety

Emergency Trunk Release (S40)
The MY02 S40 is equipped with a florescent handle on the inside of the trunk lid, which can be used in an emergency situation to open the trunk from the inside.

Reinforced Floor (S/V40)
Volvo's commitment to the safety of its occupants is unparalleled, and improvements are always sought. For MY02, the front part of the floor has been reinforced next to the tunnel to reduce deformation and intrusion on foot space in off-set collisions (when front crash forces are focused off center / to one side).

Comfort and Styling - Interior

Tunnel Console with Integrated Cupholders
A new tunnel consol with two fixed integrated cupholders is introduced. The cupholders replaces the storage area next to the hand brake.

Center Stack
The cup holder in the center stack, next to the information center control has been deleted and replaced by a convenient storage area for cell phones, garage door openers or such.

Rear Armrest with Integrated Cupholders
A new rear armrest with two integrated cupholders will be standard on all MY02 S40 and V40.

Rear Waste Bin
The addition of the two cupholders in the rear armrest frees up the compartment at the rear of the tunnel consol for a waste bin. The previous cupholder for rear passengers in the tunnel consol is deleted.

Aluminum Effect Inlays
The Sport Package introduces a new aluminum effect inlay that will be unique to the sport package. The inlays will be positioned on the same areas as the wood effect trim, the door panels, glove compartment, gear shifter and gear shifter panel.

Sporty Instrument Cluster
The sport package also introduces a somewhat different instrument cluster with a more three dimensional and sporty appearance.

Sport Seat with Leather / Cloth Seating Surface
The sporty seat from the MY01 Sport Edition will be used in the MY02 sport package. This very attractive seat increases the sporty flavor of the interior and further differentiates vehicles equipped with the sports package.

Comfort and Styling - Exterior

Black Headlight Trim
The black headlight trim, which was used on the MY01 Sport Edition that really enhances the sporty appearances of the S40 and V40, will be included in the MY02 sport package.

Colors
Three of the MY01 colors have been deleted, two solids, 247 Blackberry and 248 Panama Yellow, and one metallic, 345 Peacock Green. Two new colors will be introduced for MY02, one solid, 243 Dark Blue and one metallic, 348 Bamboo Green. This leaves the MY02 S40 and V40 with a total of nine colors, three solids and six metallics.

The metallic color 332 Midnight was deleted earlier in CY01 and replaced with 346 Black Sapphire. The solid colors 239 White and 241 Red will be changed to 249 White and 250 Red later in CY01 as they get a clear coat and are faced over to a water base. With this change, all S40 and V40 colors will be water based and have a clear coat.
